Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week

Responsibilities

Tasks could include things like the following:

  • Website Support: Working with American Heart Association Digital Content Managers, handle and document completion of assignments (issued in an online job tracking system) such as page edits, building new pages, handling page redirects, or related activities within Sitecore.
  • Brand Adherence: Ensure the alignment of our visual design with our brand identity, user needs, and business goals.
  • Quality Assurance: Use software (e.g. Siteimprove) to identify and remediate issues like broken links, misspellings, content freshness, format conversion, and accessibility (ADA compliance).
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Update web pages and content to improve SEO in efforts to make it easier for consumers to discover American Heart Association content that meets their needs.
  • Language Translation : Assist American Heart Association team members as they work with a vendor to implement all aspects of our current translation process.
  • Readability : Join in work that seeks to advance health equity by making American Heart Association content easier to read and comprehend for all.
  • Special Projects: Participate in site or section testing, content audits, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Juniors, Seniors or Graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, digital content/design, or a related field of study.
  • Interest in working with content management systems (CMS) to produce and handle online content (hands-on CMS experience preferred, but will consider any relevant similar experience)
  • Familiar with (or keen interest in) website accessibility standards and practices, HTML basics, and Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques and tools.
  • General technical proficiency and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Basic visual design skills, with an eye for details, aesthetics, and usability. Experience in Adobe Photoshop and Acrobat, a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable WiFi Connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 8:30am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
