Graduate Certificate in Event Management

The Graduate Academic Certificate in Event Management allows individuals with graduate degrees to add to their academic expertise to receive credentials related to teaching in higher education.   

It also allows professionals with a bachelor’s degree to increase their knowledge in the area of event and tourism management to meet professional or academic credentials.

The purpose of the 12-hour graduate certificate is to offer professionals in hospitality, tourism or other allied industries the opportunity to build skills and knowledge in critical analysis and subject content.

Upon advisement of the Graduate Coordinator, the student will complete 12 hours of content-based courses in the area of specialization. All 12 hours must be completed through UNT and with HMGT and EDEM courses.  All certificates may be completed with 100% online courses.

Application Requirements

 

Applying for the Graduate Academic Certificates follows the same process as applying for a graduate program.  Follow the guidelines at the UNT Graduate School website:

  • Complete and submit the ApplyTexas Application
  • Make contact with the Graduate Coordinator to discuss the GAC and submit a resume.
  • Have official transcripts from all colleges/universities attend sent to the Graduate School
  • If your GPA is under 3.0 please contact the Graduate Coordinator

Continuing from GAC to MS in Hospitality Management

 

Certificate students who choose to continue in a graduate degree program are required to meet all the requirements of that specific degree program. Students in the GAC Hospitality Management can apply for the program and submit remaining application materials to be reviewed for admittance to the MS in Hospitality Management. Satisfactory work (minimum of a B grade) on graduate courses for the certificate may be applied to a 30-hour Master of Science degree program upon advisement of the graduate adviser, department chair, and the student’s major professor, who will be selected when proceeding for a degree. Contact the HTM Graduate Coordinator with specific questions.

Costs of tuition and fees at UNT can be determined at https://admissions.unt.edu/tuition-costs-aid. This includes a tuition and fee calculator, which can help determine expected costs related to each semester based on full-time student status of resident or non-resident.

Fees may vary depending on the type of course taken, residency status of student, etc.https://sfs.unt.edu/explanation-fees. If you are classified as a non-resident student living outside of Texas while taking UNT courses (typically online) then an Out-of-State Teaching Fee is charged in lieu of tuition and instructional fees.

  • Students have a total of four years to complete the academic graduate certificate.
  • Certificate students who choose to continue in a graduate degree program are required to meet all the admission requirements, including GPA, and prerequisites of students seeking a degree in CMHT.  Satisfactory work (minimum of a B grade) on graduate courses may be applied to a 30-hour degree upon advisement of the graduate coordinator.  
  • The HTM Graduate Coordinator serves as the Major Advisor for students completing their degree plan.
