CMHT Career Expo on February 28th

Each semester, the CMHT Career Expo brings top employers in the DFW area and beyond from the retail and hospitality industries to the University Union to network, interview, and hire our highly sought out CMHT students. Many employers are alumni of the college and know from experience the depth of knowledge and experience our students hold. This semester, the CMHT Career Expo is on Tuesday, February 28th at the Emerald Ballroom from 10am-1pm.

We hope to have around 60 employers ranging from hotels, restaurants, country clubs, and major department stores to retail outlets, event venues, and ecommerce companies. They come specifically to our expo because of our 5 majors of Merchandising, Hospitality Management, Digital Retailing, Consumer Experience Management, and our newest and fastest growing major Event Design & Experience Management. Students at CMHT are required to acquire a 300 hour internship for graduation, and with the Hospitality Management and Event Design majors, they also require 500 hours of work experience prior to internship. Therefore demand is high amongst our students for employment, not to mention graduating seniors seeking that first full-time position.

Preparation workshops are to be held in February by our Career Coach, Dee Wilson, who has scheduled 2 “How to Work a Career Fair” presentations and 3 come and go resume review sessions. Students may choose which ever sessions fit into their schedules to stop by and gain assistance. The UNT Suit Up Closet is another resource available for students in need of professional clothing ahead of the expo. Items are free to students. Only a student ID is needed. They are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday in the afternoons. Check their website for details.

Students also have the opportunity to register for a student networking luncheon in which they can have lunch and network with a chosen top sponsor employer. The employers are those that have chosen to participate at a higher sponsorship level to engage even more so with our students. At this luncheon, employers get to know our students in a more intimate setting, and many times, interviews are scheduled or job offers are even made. Interview sessions follow in the afternoon back at the ballroom. These connection opportunities are invaluable in the beginning of a student’s career journey as many of our successful alumni have stayed with the same company they interned with while they were studying at CMHT. The possibilities are endless, and it all starts with preparation and attending the CMHT Career Expo. Be sure to register today.
