Dr. Christy Crutsinger returned to her faculty position in fall of 2019 after serving
in central administration for over a decade. In her role as Vice Provost for Academic
Affairs she was responsible for the development and implementation of academic policy,
evaluation of research centers and institutes, and major student success initiatives
including the launch of the Academic Success Center. Previous to this appointment,
Crutsinger served as the Vice Provost for Faculty Success where she developed and
launched the innovative hub for faculty, focusing on professional development across
the career pipeline. A few noteworthy accomplishments include the development of the
Chair Academy, the Leadership Fellows program, the Faculty Mentoring Grant Program,
and the signature UNT Foundation Salute to Faculty Excellence awards program and event.
Crutsinger holds a faculty appointment as Professor in UNT’s Department of Merchandising
& Digital Retailing. She served as associate dean of the School of Merchandising & Hospitality Management
from 2006-2010 and as chair of the Merchandising Department from 1998-2006. Under
her leadership, the department received the American Textile Manufacturer Institute
(ATMI) 2000 Award for Excellence for exemplary and innovative programs including the
nation’s first 100% web-based graduate merchandising degree.
Her research focuses on consumer motivations and influences on shopping patterns including
studies on shoplifting, Internet use, service expectations, and employee behaviors.
Most recently, her work has investigated the impact of work experiences and expectations
on career intentions of university students and faculty. In 2017, Crutsinger was invited
to deliver the keynote address, “The Consumer Experience Trend: Redefining Industries
and Talent,” at the International Summit Forum for Fashion, Technology and Talent
at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University in China. Leveraging her years in academic administration,
her scholarly work focuses on career and professional development. She teaches courses
in the Social Psychology of Dress and Appearance, Talent Development, and Leadership
Theory.
Crutsinger currently serves as UNT’s Faculty Athletic Representative for NCAA- Division
IA intercollegiate sports and has been a member of the UNT Athletic Council for over
15 years.
