Our undergraduate research workshop provides students with research skillsets that prepare students to effectively examine problems in the apparel industry and consumer markets. Students can expect hands-on exercises in groups, guided by faculty members to facilitate learning and deepen insights.

The workshop participants learned the importance of sustainability research and practices
and how their research outcomes could be transformed into insightful implications
to develop circular market innovations. Students were inspired and exchanged research
ideas with peers and faculty members, extending their research rigor to work on UNT
undergraduate research fellowships. The research workshop raised their awareness on
the issues and problems of the food and fiber industry facing and encouraged them
to be problem solvers through the research.
Feb 28, 2025
Our second research workshop was held on Feb 28, 2025. Three undergraduate research
fellows presented their sustainability research. Madeline Balckburn presented “The Impacts of the Zero Waste Textile Initiative on Student and Community Engagement,
Financial Relief, and Sustainability Awareness.” The initiative generated $12,432.94 in total student savings. Caroline Bowen presented “Case Study on Branded Recommerce: An Exploratory Study on Business Leadership and
Consumers” Nathaniel Rotunno presented “Fate of Prepared Food in UNT Dining Halls.” Their studies inspired the participants to develop their own sustainable research
agendas. Participants engaged in hands-on and sensory activities focused on plant-based
milks and leathers, further generating research ideas for circular economy innovation
in food and fashion industries.
