Xi Yu Leung, Ph.D.
Dr. Xi Y. Leung is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Hospitality & Tourism Management at University of North Texas. She earned her Ph.D. degree in Hospitality Administration from the William F. Harrah College of Hotel Administration at University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Master’s degree in Tourism Planning and Bachelor’s degree in Urban and Rural Planning from the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Peking University in China.
Dr. Leung’s research interests include information technology, social media, hospitality management, destination marketing, and hospitality education. Her work emphasizes applying new technology as tools for hotel/restaurant/destination marketing and management. She applies both traditional and creative methodologies to theories. She has published 32 articles in various peer review journals, including top-tier hospitality and tourism journals such as Tourism Management, International Journal of Hospitality Management, International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Research, Annals of Tourism Research. She has also led/participated in 9 funded grants and presented her research at 17 domestic and international conferences. As demonstration of research excellence, Dr. Leung have been honored with “Article of the Year Award,” “Conference Best Paper Award,” “Highly Commended Paper Award,” and “Most-Accessed Dissertations & Theses Award” from academic journals and conferences.
Dr. Leung has worked in a tourism consulting company for six years and in an airline company for three years. She has developed her teaching interest in hospitality marketing and information technology. Her primary teaching responsibilities at UNT include Information Technology in Hospitality & Tourism and Smart Destination.
