Visit to the Texas Fashion Collection to Explore Chanel Designs

Students enrolled in MDSE 4850 (Brand Development) visited the UNT Texas Fashion Collection to learn about fashion from the House of Chanel from the early 20th century (when Coco herself was the idea creator) to the 2000’s. The TFC includes several archived Chanel designs, so students were able to directly observe the way some of the have stood the test of time while other styles have not been as durable. The purpose of this Brand Development activity was to enable students to explore their own creativity and imagination for ideas regarding brands – specifically brands that endure. Additionally, they were better able to see how vintage clothing is able to influence future fashion trends.

The Brand Development students were hosted by Annette Becker, the Director of the Texas Fashion Collection, and Assistant Professor of Merchandising, Dr. Iva Jestratijevic.
