Dr. Wen Achieves Advanced Wine Qualification

Dr. Han Wen, Assistant Professor in the UNT College of Merchandising, Hospitality, and Tourism, recently passed the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 exams (Theory: Pass with Distinction; Tasting: Pass with Merit) and has received her WSET Level 3 Award in Wine. This is an advanced level qualification for the wine industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. The qualification program provided Dr. Wen with a more in-depth understanding of grape growing and winemaking in various regions of the world; it also allowed her to accurately assess wines and confidently explain wine styles to her students in the HMGT 4300 (Survey of Beverages) class.

Dr. Wen has a great passion for wine and has been teaching the Survey of Beverages class since she joined UNT in Fall 2016. Dr. Wen believes that teaching drives continual professional development and gives her more motivation to learn. She also believes that teachers who demonstrate their curiosity and enthusiasm in learning will have a more significant influence on student engagement. She loves to create a stimulating and supportive environment to foster interest and help students acquire knowledge and skills to succeed personally, academically, creatively and professionally.
