Dallas Study Tour - Amazon Fulfillment Center

Another Dallas Study tour trip and another learning adventure is complete. Recently my students in the Dallas Study Tour class took a trip to Amazon’s Fulfillment Center in Coppell, Texas. As part of the class structure students gain exposure into the “front of the house” and “back of the house” operations to enable them to explore various opportunities that might be available for them upon graduation. This class couldn’t be complete without a visit to this powerhouse brand revolutionizing the industry with fast shipping and partnerships with companies such as Whole Foods. Last year earnings for this global enterprise totaled $87.4 billion. As we toured the facility we learned it is approximately the size of Terminal D at Dallas-Ft. Worth airport – an astonishing 1.1 million square feet.  It is one of 20+ buildings owned by Amazon across the DFW metroplex and employs 2500 people. To give you an idea of scale, smaller locations will typically employ approximately 1000 people.  We enjoyed learning about how much Amazon offers employees in terms of advancement, learning opportunities, and the picking and shipping process. We now have a better understanding of how they are able to ship so quickly!  Thank you, Amazon for hosting an amazing tour for us!
