Four Seasons Recruits UNT Students for PGA Tour Championship
July 03, 2012

Forty-one UNT Hospitality and Tourism Management students were recruited by the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas for the prestigious HP Byron Nelson Golf Championship. Students brought their "A game" when asked to serve patrons of industry, celebrities, and golf professionals throughout the tournament in May 2012. As members of the staff, students provided a fine-dining experience for the tournament's pavilion patrons. Students were able to showcase teamwork capabilities and leadership qualities that are essential to global companies.

The Four Seasons Dallas has housed the Byron Nelson since 1968, making it the ninth-longest running tournament in golf history. The tournament, named for one of the most esteemed golf professionals of all time, has earned premier placement in the PGA Tour. An event of this caliber requires five-star service at every turn, and UNT hospitality management students stepped up to the tee.

Event employees of the Las Colinas property go through extensive training to hone the service skills of fine-dining. UNT Hospitality Management Senior, Monica Draper, commented, "The Byron Nelson was extremely helpful at enhancing my experience in the industry; it showed me how big an event can get and what it takes to make it run well. This gave me the opportunity to broaden my experience in the hospitality industry and reminded me why I love it so much!"

The tournament was a rousing success with more than 250,000 spectators in attendance. The UNT Hospitality and Tourism Management program looks forward to continuing to provide opportunities for students in future events at the Four Seasons and other prominent companies in the industry.
