The Club at Gateway Center Hosts Annual Guest Chef Day!

The Club at Gateway Center, the student-operated restaurant/lab on the UNT campus, hosted its annual Guest Chef Luncheon on November 9th for over 200 guests. Each semester the Hospitality Management Program invites a renowned chef to be featured at the Club. Students are given the opportunity to work alongside a culinary master to prepare a delicious luncheon menu. Guest Chef Day is the most popular day of the semester and is always a sold-out event. Reservations are required for this special day, and the price is an incredible value at $9.00.

The year's guest chef was Chef Patrick Hershorn. Chef Hershorn is currently the Director of Culinary Services and Corporate Executive Chef for Sysco Foods of Dallas. Chef Hershorn started with Sysco in July of 2000, after a long history of prominent positions including: Executive Chef of the Dallas Museum of Art, Executive Chef for Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Corporate Chef for Cheddar's Casual Cafes, and Corporate Chef for Westcott Communications. Chef Hershorn serves on the advisory board at El Centro College for the Food and Hospitality Services department and is on the "Chef's On Fire" planning committee, which is a fund raising competition that teams up local chefs with DFW firefighters to benefit the Parkland Burn Center.

During the luncheon, Chair of the Hospitality Management Program Dr. Dopson introduced Chef Hershorn to the guests and thanked the Sysco executives, who were also in attendance, for the ingredients donated. The meal featured three delectable courses: 1st Course  - Chopped Romaine Salad with Creamy Garlic Dressing, Apple Smoked Bacon, Grape Tomatoes, and Asiago Cheese

2nd Course - Tornadoes of Beef, Seared Beef Tenderloin over Grilled Baguette with Cranberry Demi Glace, Fall Vegetable Medley with Chiffonade of Brussels Sprouts, Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Smoked Gouda and Cayenne

3rd Course - Dark Chocolate and Toffee Brownie with Fresh Chocolate Ganache and Candied Pecans

The Club at Gateway Center is an integral part of the educational experience for the Hospitality Management program. The restaurant is a showcase training laboratory for students enrolled in two restaurant operations courses.  Please visit The Club at Gateway Center website for more information.
