NSMH hosts annual "Connect With The Best" series
October 31, 2011

The UNT National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) hosted two events in the "Connect with the Best" networking series on October 5 and November 1 in Chestnut Hall at the UNT Career Center.  The annual fall events provide students an opportunity to hone their networking skills and build their professional portfolio. This year, students interacted with panels of executives from a mix of the hospitality industry including restaurants, hotels, resorts, and sporting destinations.

The October 5 panel included executives from Hyatt Regency DFW, Chuy's Restaurant, Eatzi's Market Bakery, Cupboard Natural Food Cafe, Las Colinas Country Club, Legends Hospitality Management, Omni Mandalay, WinStar World Casino and Hotel, Marriott International, and Dr. Pepper Ball Park. These leaders from the hospitality industry shared their experiences with over 100 students in an open question and answer format.  Norman Smith, Assistant General Manager of WinStar Hotel, stated, "We are looking to enhance our relationship with the UNT Hospitality Program in an attempt to fill any and all positions with quality employees." After the panel session, students gained valuable company insights and career path options while exchanging business cards with industry professionals.

NSMH hosted its second event in the "Connect with the Best" series on November 1, which produced an even larger turnout of over 20 panel members representing top companies in the hospitality industry. An audience of over 130 students attended the open question and answer networking event, and they were able to connect with the industry representatives after the panel session. A number of new companies that had representatives at the event included the Cowboys Stadium, Starbucks, and Four Seasons.

This fall "Connect with the Best" series sported the largest student and executive turnout in UNT NSMH history, mirroring the Hospitality Management program's substantial growth in quality.
