Hotel Students Visit Omni Mandalay
September 27, 2011

Concluding the summer session of Dr. Bharath Josiam's Hotel Operations class, students attended a tour of the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas in Irving, TX. The Omni Mandalay, a 421 room luxury property, offers state of the art meeting facilities, a world class art collection, a heated lakeside swimming pool, and the full-service Mokara Salon and Spa. While on location at the Omni Mandalay, students attended presentations from a wide variety of managers and department heads. These presentations consisted financial business issues within the operation, food and beverage topics, and general operating procedures. Some of the presenters included the general manager of the hotel, Andrew Casperson, and director of human resources, Lisa Welch, who also recruits students at the Hospitality Management annual Career Expo. A number of UNT alumni also presented to the students including Salim Dhanani, Ayron Leisure, and Sarah Greenleaf. Following the presentations, students were given an extended tour of the hotel by the UNT alumni.

After the tour, students were instructed to write a reflective paper linking what they had learned in class with their experience at the hotel. Dr. Josiam believes these trips help to, "Solidify the bonds between the university and the hospitality industry."
