Dr. Bharath Josiam presents research papers at international conferences
July 12, 2011

It seems that summers are always a chance for Dr. Bharath M. Josiam, Professor in the Hospitality Management program, to travel abroad and represent UNT as a scholar. This summer was no different with seven different flights to four cities in two different countries. Dr. Josiam presented three papers at The 5th International Conference on Services Management in New Delhi (NCR), India and one paper at the 9th Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, & Institutional Education Conference in Hong Kong, SAR, China.

The papers presented in New Delhi, India were the result of collaborative work with other faculty members in both the Merchandising and Hospitality Management departments. The focus of these papers was on the impact of movies on travel, tourism, and fashion. While two of the papers reported on data collected at UNT and examined the impact of Hollywood movies on American audiences, the third paper focused on Bollywood movies and how they impact those of Indian ethic origin.

In Hong Kong, Dr. Josiam presented a paper that examined the perceptions of Indian tourists travelling to Bangkok, Thailand. This paper was a result of a thesis by Hospitality Management M.S. student, Ms. Raktida Siri.

Dr. Josiam uses his international travel as an opportunity to not only represent UNT but to also enhance his teaching by incorporating his experiences abroad in the classroom. He says, "This helps to paint a picture for the students and engages them in the learning experience.  When I travel, I go to as many different hotels as I can; even if I am not staying there. I am constantly observing the operations and management of hotels to relate to my hotel operations class."
