SMHM Students win awards at Edible Books Festival

Dr. Priscilla Connors, an Associate Professor for the UNT Hospitality Management program engaged her students in the the UNT Libraries' annual Edible Books Festival held April 1st, 2011 in the Willis Library.


All entries were required to use some form of literary resemblance and be completely edible. Prize categories included: Best Tasting, Best Use of Chocolate, Best Adult Fiction Book, Best Adult Non-Fiction Book, Best Children's Book, Most Unusual Use of Food, and Best Non-Cake Book.

Entries were judged on: (a) Originality and Creativity; (b) Skill and Construction; (c) Visual Appeal; and (d) Adherence to the Book Theme.  

Winners included:

  • "Best Non-Cake" - Cat in the Hat by Angelica Castillo
  • "Best Use of Chocolate" - The Chocolate Room by Dallas Guill
  • "Most Unusual Use of Food"  - Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs by Mary Davis
  • "Best Children's Book"  - Cat in the Hat by Bailey Turner and Valerie Morgan
  • "Best Adult Fiction"  - Hogwart's Castle by Nadia Eimandoust
  • "Best Tasting"  - The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Maru Castrejon
  • "Best Adult Non-Fiction" -  Are You There Vodka? It's Me Chelsea by Allyson Gardner & Julie Wright
