Target sponsors undergraduate case study competition

Students enrolled in the capstone course, Advanced Merchandising Applications, participated in a case study competition sponsored by the Target Campus Grant program. Under the direction of Dr. Sanjukta Pookulangara and Ms. Dee Wilson, students created cutting edge strategies to capture the multi-cultural shopper. The $2,000 prize was awarded to Jessica Pendolino and Rachel Raymond for their innovative product development strategy. Going forward, Target plans to implement their proposed strategy of developing a specialized cosmetic line for Asian consumers.

 

Target has successfully uncovered the perfect formula for student engagement and academic support with programs such as the case study competition. "We are fortunate to have such a strong Target presence on the UNT campus," says Dee Wilson, lecturer and career development coordinator for merchandising internships. Dr. Sanjukta Pookulangara, assistant professor in merchandising and instructor for the course adds, "The case study competition provides an important and dynamic component to the learning environment that is hard to capture in a traditional classroom lecture." Through strong industry partnerships, UNT students are learning firsthand what it takes to make the cut.
