Passion for partnerships

Driven by a passion for developing retail talent, Dr. Claudia Mobley (B.S. in Merchandising, '76) is well known across the nation for bridging partnerships between industry and academia.  For her efforts in student and industry engagement, Dr. Claudia Mobley (B.S. '76, merchandising) received the 2010-11 Outstanding Merchandising Alumni Award. Mobley is the director of the Center for Retailing Excellence, an outreach center within the Sam M. Walton College of Business at the University of Arkansas. In this role, she supports the business community through access to quality students and conducting programs that showcase cutting-edge technology and trends in the marketplace.  The center also provides funding for faculty research as well as access to consumer software and data.  


Mobley received her M.S. in Clothing and Textiles from Texas Woman's University in 1992 and her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Arkansas in 2004. Currently, she is the president of the American Collegiate Retailing Association and also sits on the board of the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation, the research and education arm of the world's largest retail trade organization.

With extensive industry experience across all points of the apparel supply chain, Mobley knows exactly what it takes for students to succeed in the increasingly competitive global marketplace. "The importance of building a network of contacts and gaining valuable work experience is more important than ever for today's college graduates," says Mobley. "My mission is to bridge industry and academics to develop tomorrow's industry leaders, she adds.  For Mobley, passion equates to student success.
