Career development is a top priority for UNT's hospitality management program
February 08, 2011

For many graduates across the nation, the thought of entering the job market during an economic downturn is rather daunting. Fortunately, UNT hospitality management students and alumni have a distinct advantage when it comes to industry connections. With a dedicated faculty member to strengthen industry partnerships, UNT's hospitality management program places over 150 interns each year, hosts an annual hospitality career expo, maintains an up-to-date website with job postings, and connects students through an active Facebook account.

Dr. Marvel Maunder, hospitality management lecturer and career development coordinator, believes in the power of opening doors for students and understands the realities of making this happen through technology.  "I am thrilled to be at a university that prides itself in helping students prepare for their professional career and offers technological support to make it happen," says Maunder.

UNT students also have access to the Eagle Network that allows them to upload their resumes and contact industry professionals for mentoring advice, internships programs, and interviews. Conversely, the program also allows industry professionals to view students resume profiles and reach out to them.

For many hospitality students like senior Ashley Walling, they learn about career openings through popular social media networks such as Facebook and Linked In.  "The 'UNT Hospitality' Facebook page provides me with updates on where to find a job, and learn all the cool things we are doing at our university," says Walling.
