Merchandising students attend Retail's Big Show in New York
January 24, 2011

From precision retailing to mobile strategies, 11 UNT merchandising students learned about cutting edge trends at the 2011 National Retail Federation's (NRF) annual conference and expo in New York. The NRF conference, known as 'Retail's Big Show,' boasted more than 22,000 attendees. The eleven students were selected through a competitive process and were required to attend several pre-conference meetings to maximize their learning experience.

Marissa Zorola, senior lecturer in merchandising, accompanied the students and was impressed with their sense of purpose and motivation. "Our students maximized their networking opportunities," says Zorola. "They had a clear vision of what sessions they wanted to attend and took every opportunity to seek out industry icons," she adds.

Although no stranger to New York, senior Michelle Olomojobi was awestruck with the level of executive talent at the conference. "I will never forget shaking hands with Sir Phillip Green, the owner of UK-based Arcadia Group," says Olomojobi "I now have a contact in Europe and will begin making plans to expand my global network" she adds.

For merchandising senior, Debbie Duncan, the conference was a great opportunity to let the world know about the amazing talent at UNT. "I loved the fact that most everyone I met knew about our university or had some affiliation to our program," says Duncan.

Other students attending the conference were Nicole Acra, Stacy Akinyemi, Yurianna Castillo, Alli James, Ashley Phillips, Cecilia Serrano, Cody Sharp, Kimberly Staples, and Nickolas Wood. UNT's participation in the conference was made possible through the generous support of the Merchandising Board of Governors.
