Eta Sigma Delta honor society initiation ceremony
December 08, 2010

The Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) chapter at UNT inducted forty members on November 9, 2010. This international honor society recognizes exceptional academic achievement among hospitality and tourism students at the baccalaureate and master levels. Students are invited to join based on upper-classmen status, GPA requirements, and being in the top 20% of their class. This year, the top 20% of students had a 3.4 GPA or higher.

Dr. Richard Tas, the keynote speaker for the ceremony, reflected on the 25th anniversary of the hospitality management program, and its early beginnings.  Hannah Clifton, President of the ESD Chapter, also spoke regarding the service requirement for the members, which includes tutoring hospitality management students.

Julia O'Rourke, a new initiate and senior in the hospitality management program says, "Not only am I proud of my accomplishments, but I also enjoy seeing the pride of my professors."

ESD is administered by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE), the leading international association devoted to hospitality and tourism education. ESD offers members a chance to network, volunteer, and represent UNTs' outstanding hospitality management program locally, nationally, and internationally.
