NSMH Connect with the Best: Hotel Edition
November 15, 2010

The National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) hosted the "Connect with the Best: Hotel Edition" networking series on November 3 in the UNT Career Center.  The annual fall event provides students an opportunity to hone their networking skills and build their professional portfolio. A panel of hotel executives from Hyatt, Fairmont, Omni, and Kimpton's Hotel Lumen and Hotel Palomar shared their experiences with over 100 students in an open question and answer format.

Blythe Beck (BS '02), Executive Chef at Grill 214 at the Palomar Hotel and celebrity TV chef, was impressed with the enthusiasm, motivation, and strong work ethic of hospitality management students.  "UNT students have a reputation in the industry as hard workers...our school definitely rocks," says Beck. Andrew Wright, General Manager of the Palomar Hotel in Dallas was equally excited by the synergy of bringing industry leaders, students, and faculty members together.  "We are thrilled to share in the development of young talent and build these collaborative partnerships, which will hopefully translate to our future workforce" says Wright.

After the panel session, students exchanged business cards and resumes with industry executives gaining valuable company insight and career path options.  For more information on NSMH and upcoming events, please contact Dr. Marvel Maunder, Career Development Coordinator and NSMH advisor.
