UNT's digital retailing students discover the future of shopping at annual Shop.org summit
October 22, 2010

Shop.org, the digital division of the National Retail Federation, held their 2010 annual summit at the Gaylord Texan Hotel & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, September 27-29. Fifteen UNT undergraduate and graduate students networked with industry professionals, attended conference presentations, and assisted summit organizers over the three day event.

From mobile technology to cross channel optimization, students were exposed to the future of shopping with keynote presentations from executives at Southwest Airlines, Facebook, and Shoebuy.com, to name a few. According to Dr. Tammy Kinley, chair of the merchandising division and faculty sponsor, the experience for students was transformative. "The summit exposed students to the unlimited possibilities of a career digital retailing through panel and round table discussions on social media, search engine optimization, and mobile technology," says Kinley.

Beyond networking and learning, students and other summit participants enjoyed a buffet style dinner, participated in a pass, punt, and kick competition, and had their picture taken on the famous star at Cowboy Stadium in Arlington.

Rich Last, chairman of the board of Shop.org and a member of the merchandising board of governors, has been instrumental in developing the Shop.org and UNT partnership. "We are proud to support the future of retailing by connecting UNT students with key industry leaders in this way," says Last.
