Exploring Sustainable Tourism Partnerships in Thailand
September 12, 2010

UNT's hospitality management program welcomed Dr. Kannapa Pongponrat, Professor from the Mahidol International College in Thailand, to campus the week of September 12, 2010. In efforts to extend UNT's global presence in the area of sustainable tourism, administrators and faculty met with Pongponrat to discuss potential programmatic partnerships and collaborative research efforts.  During her week on campus, Professor Pongponrat shared her insight with faculty and graduate students in the areas of international grant writing, sustainable tourism, and current trends emerging in the Thai market.

UNT students and faculty also learned about study abroad opportunities with Mahidol International College and were able to show off their southern hospitality by taking Dr. Pongponrat on a tour of the best of North Texas.  They  toured the beautiful UNT Denton campus, downtown Dallas, and the world famous facilities of the Gaylord Texan and Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, Texas.

Dr. Pongponrat's visit is another example of the innovative partnerships UNT seeks in building their international reputation.  This fall, UNT's hospitality management program launched the first joint degree program in international sustainable tourism in partnership with CATIE, an education and research center located in Costa Rica.
