R.E.A.L. community @ Kerr Hall this fall
October 4, 2010

This fall, the School of Merchandising & Hospitality Management welcomed 25 incoming and continuing students into a "R.E.A.L. community" (Residents Engaged in Academic Learning).  By living on a designated wing in Kerr Hall, students have unlimited opportunities to make friends and immerse themselves in all aspects of campus life and in the merchandising and hospitality industries.  Residents were welcomed by SMHM student leaders, advisors, and faculty on Sunday, Fun Day, Move-in Day. Throughout September, students have interacted with faculty and fellow residents in Kerr Hall and at the Club at Gateway Center.

In addition to the amenities offered to all dorm residents, the SMHM Living Learning Community offer students:

  • Periodic scheduled on-site advising
  • Scheduled tutoring
  • Satellite learning center
  • Special workshops with industry leaders
  • Frequent lunches with SMHM faculty
  • Field trips to area merchandising and hospitality companies
  • Industry events including fashion shows, trade shows, and professional conferences
  • Pizza parties sponsored and attended by the SMHM Board of Governors
