UNT receives Marriott gift for renovation and naming of culinary lab
September 30, 2010

The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation has committed $300,000 to match Higher Education Assistance Funding for the renovation and naming of the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management's culinary lab.  The funding will cover construction costs to renovate the laboratory which is located on the third floor of Chilton Hall.

Steve Bauman, VP of Global Talent Acquisition for Marriott International visited UNT last fall, spending the day with hospitality students and faculty in discussions of the company, its vision for the industry, and its relationship with UNT.  "We look at our partnership as a reciprocal value:  one where we invest in the school and the school invests in us by delivering a strong hospitality education curriculum and great graduates," says Bauman.

The gift is another example of Marriott's long-standing collaborative partnership with UNT.   "We are grateful for the generous and ongoing support of the J. Willard and Alice S. Marriot Foundation, and we look forward to creating a state-of-the-art lab for our students to hone their culinary skills," says Judith Forney, dean of the school.  Construction for the renovation is slated to begin in the summer of 2011.
