Target Corporation awards campus grant to UNT merchandising team

Through the efforts of Dr. Sanjukta Pookulangara and Ms. Dee Wilson, the UNT merchandising division secured a $4,000 grant for its students through the Target Campus Grant program.  The grant supported a case study challenge for students enrolled in the capstone course, Advanced Merchandising Strategies.

 

Throughout the semester, students worked in teams to create workable solutions to the current industry challenge of capturing the cross-channel shopper.  Students formally presented their ideas to a panel of Target executives for final selection.  

 

The cash prize was awarded to merchandising students, Lydia Johnston, Kelly Teneyuque, and Lauren Tolliver for their innovative marketing and distribution strategies.  Pookulangara, assistant professor in merchandising and instructor for the course says,

"I was impressed by the students' ability to creatively and effectively apply their academic coursework to address an industry problem."   Going forward, Target plans to execute the strategies developed by the winning team.

 

"Target has a rich history of supporting our program at UNT," says Wilson, lecturer and career development coordinator in merchandising. "The case study challenge is just another great example of the far-reaching impact that Target has on the professional development of our students," she adds.
