SMHM alumni, students, and faculty attend conference and win best paper award

Jichul (Steve) Jang, UNT Hospitality Management alumni, Dr. Richard Tas, Professor of Hospitality Management, and Dr. Haejung Kim, Assistant Professor of Merchandising won the Best Paper Award sponsored by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education at the 15th Annual Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism.  Mr. Jang presented the results of his thesis titled, "The Impact of Career Motivation and Polychronicity on Job Satisfaction and Turnover Intention," at the conference held in Chantilly, VA in January, 2010.  Dr. Tas, thesis committee chair and Dr. Kim, thesis committee member, mentored Mr. Jang on completing this requirement for his MS in Hospitality Management.  Mr. Jang is currently working on his Ph.D. at Ohio State University.


Current UNT Hospitality Management students presented their research as well.  Jackie Stevenson, MS graduate student, presented, "Evaluation  of a Capstone Course that Assesses Student Learning Outcomes of a Hospitality Management Curriculum," and Gilpatrick Hornsby, undergraduate student, presented, "Customer Perception of Food Misbehaviors."  Hornsby, a McNair Scholar, will be beginning his MS program at Oklahoma State University this semester.


Dr. Dopson, Chair of the Hospitality Management program, attended the presentations and commented, "I am very proud of the accomplishments of our alumni, faculty, and students.  They all represented UNT well.  It is very satisfying to know that the scholarly research of the Hospitality Management program is being recognized by the discipline internationally."
