Avantika Thombre Receives Graduate Fellowship from the International Textile and Apparel Association

The International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA) recently awarded merchandising graduate student, Avantika Thombre, the Sara Douglas Professional Promise Fellowship. Avantika will be recognized in October at the 2009 ITAA Annual Meeting in Bellevue, Washington.  The fellowship is awarded to graduate students who have demonstrated outstanding potential and commitment to the field of textiles and apparel. 


Avantika received her Bachelor of Engineering in Textile Technology from Shri Vaishnav Institute of Technology & Science in Indore, India.  Her innovative research will investigate the influence of virtual communities/virtual retail stores on consumer behavior and purchase intention.  Avantika also is the current recipient of the 2008-2009 UNT Graduate School Master’s Fellowship.  Merchandising Chair Dr. Tammy Kinley describes Avantika "as an intelligent and inquisitive student who exceeds expectations with her professionalism, leadership, and thirst for knowledge.  We are proud of her international recognition."
