Merchandising Graduate Student, Davette Angelo, Receives National Recognition For Service to AAFCS

Davette Angelo, graduate student in merchandising , received the Student of the Year Award given by the American Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) at their 100th Annual Conference and Expo held in Knoxville, Tennessee in June.   As the past recipient of the AAFCS Flemmie Kittrell National Fellowship, Davette understands the importance of giving back to one's profession.  During the 2008-2009 academic year, Davette served as the national secretary for the student section of AAFCS and as the graduate student liaison for the UNT chapter of the Texas Association of Family & Consumer Sciences.  As a conference delegate, Davette presented her research, conducted with Dr. Christy Crutsinger, entitled "Weaving Sustainability throughout the Undergraduate Curriculum: An Assessment of Textile and Apparel Programs." 


In her reflection message in the Journal of Family & Consumer Sciences (2009), Davette noted the importance of leadership and professional development,"As I embark upon my own graduation from the University of North Texas and transition to a professional membership I continue to place the highest value on the network and lifelong friendships I have gained through my participation in AAFCS."
