Wilson Receives Award from Student Government Association

Dee Wilson, Lecturer and Career Development Coordinator for the School of Merchandising and Hospitality Management (SMHM), received the 2009 Advisor of the Year Award.   The award, sponsored by the Student Government Association, is presented to an advisor of a student organization making a significant contribution to student development at UNT.

 

Wilson joined the SMHM faculty in August 2007 and hit the ground running as the advisor for the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH).  Under her leadership, the organization received the New Chapter of the Year National Award for 2008. Melissa Portocarrero, NSMH President, notes, "Ms. Wilson believes in inclusion and the wonderful potential that diversity holds. Her professionalism and caring nature serve as the foundation for success."  

 

Wilson received her M.Ed. in Higher Education from the University of North Texas and earned two bachelor's degrees from Texas Woman's University in government and business administration. Ms. Wilson is currently teaching Pre-Internship Seminar and the Internship class for merchandising students. Prior to her current position, Wilson served as the Associate Director of the UNT Career Center.
