Merchandising Student Participates in Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leadership Summit: Voices of the Future in Lima, Peru
December 18, 2008

Merchandising senior, Ashli White, joined students from 20 economies to participate in the 2008 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Voices Leadership Summit in Lima Peru.  Student ambassadors from Canada, Chile, China, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, Vietnam, and many other countries, interacted with business and political leaders to discuss how to advance regional economic integration and improve structural reform.  The meeting's theme, A New Commitment to Asia-Pacific Development, highlighted the importance of reducing the gap between developed and developing member economies.

White was selected as one of four students to represent the University of North Texas (UNT).  "Through my participation in this summit, I am ever mindful that increased trade and investment will positively impact my community, and ultimately my professional career," states White. Her experiences, and those of her peers, are evidence that neither economic stability nor diplomacy is beyond the reach of young citizens across the world.

Dr. Lou Pelton accompanied the UNT group.  Pelton, Associate Professor of Marketing, was selected as one of two U.S. professors to represent the nation at the summit.
