Hospitality Management Students Attend National Restaurant Association Meeting in Chicago

Pepsico sponsored ten students to attend the National Restaurant Association meeting in Chicago in May with VIP passes to some of the most elite events  including the Champagne and Strawberries fundraiser, the Gold and Silver Plate awards, and the Multicultural Foodservice & Hospitality Alliance cocktail reception. A highlight of the trip was a special invitation to experience Chef Charlie Trotter's "Excellence Program." Students toured  his world famous restaurant (Charlie Trotters), interacted with staff members, and enjoyed a delectable six-course meal.   Throughout the four-day trip, students worked the UNT and PepsiCo booths, networked with industry professionals, and socialized with students from Johnson & Wales.  Dr. Lea Dopson, Chair of the Hospitality Management program, and Joy Wright, UNT Development Officer, accompanied the students.  President of the UNT chapter of National Society of Minorities in Hospitality, Melissa Portocarrero, sums up the experience best, "our program is indeed going places and Chicago was a major stopover on our road to national recognition."
