Building a Global Websphere
May 06, 2008

In the 21st century, ideas, production, sales, customer service, and consumer experiences occur around the world with most brands.  It is likely that graduates of the merchandising program will work with constituencies external to the United States in their professional careers. To that end, the merchandising faculty received a grant from the UNT Hispanic and Global Studies Initiatives Fund to develop a project designed to integrate international experiences for all undergraduate merchandising students.    To accomplish this goal, a Distinguished Lecture Series generated discussion of global industry perspectives, retail industry perspectives, and digital perspectives.  These lectures served as the springboard for several class assignments that also utilized the student's interest in digital media including blogs, YouTube, and Face book. The result was a borderless social networking system that shared information, ideas, and fashion.  The goal of the Global Websphere project was to capitalize on this interest in the classroom with individual and group projects.
