2014 Hospitality Career Expo Powered by ClubCorp and Freeman Company
Oct 22, 2014

The UNT Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTM) program hosted its 16th annual Hospitality Career Expo on March 5, 2014. ClubCorp, The World Leader in Private Clubs, and Freeman Company, the leading exhibit and event management company in the world, were the top sponsors of the Expo as $5,000 Diamond Sponsors. Marriott International and Panda Restaurant Group also supported the Expo as $3,500 Platinum Sponsors. More than 240 recruiters, including 35 UNT alumni, were welcomed with a luncheon prepared and served by hospitality management students, followed by the three-hour Expo. The day ended with a “Top Pick” Student Connection Reception for recruiters, faculty, and top students selected by recruiters during the Expo.  The “Top Pick” reception was sponsored by our six $1,000 Gold Sponsors and was catered by El Guapo’s Tex Mex Resturant, owned and operated by HTM board member Mike Zampino. The Expo was also sponsored by three $750 Silver Sponsors and 58 Bronze Sponsors at $500 each.

A record 73 hospitality companies, including hotels, restaurants, clubs, food distributors, travel companies and contract management companies, shared career opportunities with hospitality management students. Eighteen new companies joined the Expo this year. One newcomer was Dallas Area Starwood Properties. “We were all very impressed with the students and layout of the job fair.  We’ve already had two interviews,” said Kelly Ford, Assistant Director of Human Resources at Sheraton Dallas.  Another new company to the Expo was NewcrestImage, a Texas-based hotel development, construction, and management firm.   “Thanks so much for your time and efforts at the Career Fair yesterday. You should be very proud of your department, university and students. We were very impressed with the entire day,” stated Stu Arledge of NewcrestImage.

Each year more and more hospitality recruiters attend the Expo to find quality educated professionals who are prepared to face the day-to-day challenges of the hospitality industry. HTM Career Development Coordinator Rosa Malave stated, “The Hospitality Career Expo opens a lot of doors for students to realize their potential within the hospitality industry and we are thankful for our relationships with our industry partners.”

For 2015, at the request of our industry partners, the UNT Hospitality event has been redesigned to include more events and accommodate more recruiting opportunities.  The expanded, leading-edge Hospitality International Career Development Conference & Career Expo will be held the week of March 02-06, 2015 the Career Expo itself will be on Wednesday March 04, 2015 in the UNT Coliseum. "Employers were impressed with our students, our facilities, and our programs," says Dr. Young Hoon Kim, Chair of the Hospitality and Tourism Management program. "Likewise, our students demonstrated a true seriousness of purpose at this high energy event," he adds. "The 2014 event marks the 16th year for the annual Hospitality Career Expo and demonstrates the school's commitment to student success.”
