The Club at Gateway Center Celebrates Guest Chef Day with Executive Chef Jeff Zimmerman, Corporate Director of Culinary Development at ClubCorp.
Oct 22, 2014

Guest Chef Day is always a very special day at The Club at Gateway Center.  This spring, the Club’s General Manager, Dr. Joseph O’Donnell, invited Executive Chef Jeff Zimmerman, Corporate Director of Culinary Development at ClubCorp, to work as Guest Chef with UNT Hospitality students at the Club. “It’s an opportunity to give the students exposure to somebody that’s actively employed in the craft,” stated Dr. O’Donnell.

Executive Chef Jeff Zimmerman brings an impressive blend of experience, expertise, and enthusiasm to the Hospitality & Tourism Management program’s Guest Chef Series at UNT.  A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, he has been a Certified Executive Chef for the past twenty years.

In working with the students, Chef Zimmerman not only showcased his culinary expertise in the areas of recipe development, menu engineering, standardized menus, and seasonal cooking, but also stressed to the students many of the management techniques and competencies required in the successful operation of a busy kitchen. Jeff’s passion for hard work, dedication, and “back to the basics” mentality have gained him a reputation as an individual who will go the extra mile to help anyone succeed.  He has been with the ClubCorp organization for more than 32 years, and during that time has served in senior management positions overseeing some of ClubCorp’s most prestigious properties.

The Club at Gateway Center is an integral part of the educational experience for the Hospitality & Tourism Management Program.  The restaurant is a showcase training laboratory for students enrolled in two restaurant management courses.  Students learn to run a successful restaurant by practicing fine dining service techniques, management skills, menu planning, financial management, marketing techniques and food production.  It is a premier learning environment for students and a delightful experience for guests.

Each semester the College of Merchandising, Hospitality & Tourism invites an area chef to visit the Club. Students are given the opportunity to work alongside a culinary master preparing an exquisite luncheon menu. Guest Chef Day is the most popular day of the semester and is always a sold-out event! Reservations are required for this special day.
