“Although I am very excited about this new opportunity, I am leaving the University of North Texas (UNT) with mixed emotions,” Dopson reflects.  “I have been at UNT for the past 12 years, and I absolutely love the students, alumni, faculty, staff, administration, board members, and industry partners that I have come to call ‘family’ over the years.  This is a bitter-sweet time for me.  I will sorely miss UNT, but I am looking forward to new challenges in my career.”

Dr. Judith Forney, Dean of the College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism spoke highly of Dr. Dopson, “In her 12 years as Chair of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at UNT, Dr. Lea Dopson always exhibited a passion for hospitality education and the hospitality industry.  It was the driving force in all that she did and made her a nationally recognized leader in hospitality education.  The deanship in The Collins College of Hospitality Management at Cal Poly Pomona is the perfect opportunity for the next stage of her leadership.  I want to thank her for her tireless effort to bring hospitality management at UNT to levels of national and international recognition.  While her presence will be missed, we extend hearty congratulations and wish her every success in her new position.”

The Collins College of Hospitality Management thrives from a tradition of excellence and is consistently ranked among the nation's premier hospitality management programs.  Founded in 1973, The Collins College of Hospitality Management is the first and largest four-year hospitality management degree program in California and the only hospitality management college on the West Coast.  Approximately 1,100 undergraduate and graduate students receive a superior education in the state-of-the-art Collins College facilities, where they learn to apply hospitality management theories and concepts to real-world settings.
