Hospitality Professionals from Around the Country Converge at UNT
Dec 17,2013

The University of North Texas (UNT) National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH) hosted their annual “Connect with the Best” networking series on November 6, 2013 at the UNT Gateway Center.  The annual fall event provides students an opportunity to listen, learn, and network with hospitality industry professionals from around the country.

This year, students interacted with a panel of executives from Marriott Champion Circle, Embassy Suites, Noah’s Events, Minute Suites, ClubCorp, Colonial Country Club, Panda Express, Corner Bakery, Expedia, Pappas Restaurants, and Kimpton Hotel Group.  These leaders from the hospitality industry shared their career paths and expertise with over 100 students in an open question and answer format.

Laura Gilham, Vice President of People Strategy from ClubCorp, offered the following advice to students, “It is important to remember that the hospitality industry is a close nit group.  Don’t burn any bridges; many opportunities have been lost by not understanding the relationships among the leaders in the hospitality industry.”  After the panel session, students gained valuable insights into career path options while exchanging business cards and resumes with industry professionals.

Rosa Malave, Career Development Coordinator and NSMH Advisor stated, “This is an opportunity for the Hospitality and Tourism Management program to enhance our relationships with our industry partners, as well as allow the program to showcase UNT hospitality and tourism management students to some of the industry’s top recruiters.”
