Chef Jodi Duryea Volunteers at Sky Ball XI

The Hospitality and Tourism Management program’s own Chef Duryea volunteers her time and expertise annually at Sky Ball in support of our nation’s military service members, veterans, and their families.  On October 5, 2013 she was on hand to make 2,600 desserts for the event.  She stated that she was impressed with the skills and dedication of the young military chefs in attendance.

Chef Duryea’s father was a WWII Veteran, and her grandfather fought in WWI.  When asked why she volunteers for Sky Ball, Duryea replied, “I have been given such an incredible gift and I feel it is my duty to give back.”

With its title sponsor, American Airlines, Sky Ball XI was an event to remember.  The most decorated officer in the history of the 82nd Airborne Division, Lt. Col (Ret.) James "Maggie" Megellas was the honorary Chairman of the event.  Tony Orlando was present to celebrate 40 years of "Tie a Yellow Ribbon," Celebrity Chef Robert Irvine created a culinary masterpiece for all of the guests, and America's patriot and supporter of the troops, Gary Sinise, headlined the evening with a spectacular show featuring his Lt. Dan Band.  The evening concluded with a fireworks grand finale to wrap up an amazing celebration of American Heroes.

Sky Ball supports the Airpower Foundation, which assists deployed military families, wounded warriors, and veterans of past wars.
