Active Learning: Students Increase Knowledge in Social Responsibility and Sustainability

Students in the three merchandising (MDR) majors have been involved in discovering more about social responsibility and sustainability in many of their courses over recent semesters. A few of the projects include: 

Merchandising majors…

  • Explored concepts of green fashion and green washing.
  • Examined production methods and the effects on carbon footprints.
  • Created blogs about their individual sustainability practices.
  • Evaluated a variety of current industry challenges and proposed solutions using relevant academic theories.

Home Furnishings Merchandising majors…

  • Researched, planned and created displays for a home and garden show exhibition space with an emphasis on sustainable products or green living.

Digital Retailing majors…

  • Examined their own contributions to social responsibility through blog assignments.
