Center Applies Global and Consumer Perspectives in Examining the Current and Future States of Digital Retailing

The Global Digital Retailing Research Center (GDRRC), housed in the College of Merchandising, Hospitality, & Tourism (CMHT) at the University of North Texas, launched in Spring of 2013.This Center is the result of a visionary goal fostered and led by Dr. Judith Forney, Dean of the College of Merchandising, Hospitality, & Tourism.The Center is a collaborative academic – industry community with four visionary goals of global discovery, objective thought, talent development, and excellence awards.

The Center applies global and consumer perspectives to research, discourse, knowledge transfer, and innovation as it examines the current and future states of digital retailing.The Center is home to the UNT Interdisciplinary Research Cluster “Consumer Experiences in Digital Environments.” The GDRRC is the first known research center to focus on digital retailing and its impact on consumers. 

The center is led by a pioneer in digital retailing, Mr. Richard Last, who founded in 1994, and is a two-term Chair Emeritus and current member of’s Board of Directors.The collaborative efforts of the GDRRC support an active community of discovery at local, national, and international levels.The GDRRC center held its first Digital Executive Education Program (DEEP) in March 2013, designed for professionals desiring to broaden their understanding of digital retailing for their companies or prepare for individual career growth.Executives from Brazil and the U.S. and CMHT graduate students participated.
