Hyatt Regency DFW Hosts Hotel Operations Students

On August 9th Dr. Bharath Josiam’s Hotel Operations students attended a field trip to the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport.  With 811 newly renovated guest rooms, 92,000 square feet of meeting space, and five food and beverage outlets, hospitality students were able to connect classroom instruction with industry practices. 

General Manager, Tim Dant, and his executive team presented information on front office operations, sales and marketing, catering, food and beverage, rooms division, human resource management, and engineering.  One of the presenters was Steven Golan, Assistant Outlets Manager and UNT Hospitality & Tourism Management alumnus.

Jonathon Chaplowe, Director of Human Resources, used this opportunity to reinforce the education and professionalism needed to manage an award-winning hotel such as the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport.  Chaplowe is a regular recruiter at the UNT Hospitality Management Career Expo, and he participates in the UNT Hospitality Management “Connect with the Best” series every fall.   

Dr. Josiam believes the field trips are important to the education of hospitality students because, “Interacting with industry experts and getting numbers and statistics from a leading hotel, ‘brings to life’ the information in the textbook and lectures for the students.
