Internationally Award Winning Faculty Prominent in International Conferences

Dr. Bharath M. Josiam and Dr. Young Hoon Kim, faculty of the UNT Hospitality and Tourism Management program, presented fifteen papers with three awards this summer at:
  • The World Conference on Hospitality Tourism and Event Research, and the International Convention and Expo Summit (WHTER-ICES) 2013, in Bangkok, Thailand
  • The Academy for Global Business Advancement (AGBA) 10th Annual World Congress at the King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology at Ladkrbang Bangkok, Thailand
  • The 11th Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (APAC- CHRIE) Conference in Macau, SAR, China
  • The National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) – A Graduate University in Thailand under the Ministry of Education

Jermaine Jamison a Graduate of the UNT Hospitality and Tourism Management Master’s Program, Dr. Josiam and Dr. Kim of the HTM faculty presented, “An Understanding of Attendees at a Food Festival by the Levels of Involvement,” was awarded one of the “Highly Commended Paper” designations at the WHTER-ICES Conference.

Dr. Josiam and Dr. Dan Spears (not present) of the HTM faculty, Dr. Pookulangara and Dr. Kinley of the Merchandising & Digital Retail faculty  along with collaborator  Dr. Kutta, Associate Professor of Marketing at Bhartiya Vidya Bhawans Usha & Lakshmi Mittal Institute of Management, New Deli, India received the “Best Paper Award” at the AGBA Congress for their collaborative paper, “Using the Involvement Construct to Understand the Impact of Bollywood on the Activities and Behaviors of Indian Tourists: An Empirical Study.”

Dr. Josiam was also invited to present the following at NIDA:

Josiam, B.M., Spears, D., Pookulangara, S., Dutta, K., & Kinley, T. (2013). “Namastey London; An Evening in Paris: Bollywood Movies and their Impact on Gen Y Indians’ Perceptions of Europe.”

Josiam, B.M., & Hobson, J.S.P. (2013). “Consumer Choice in Context: The Decoy Effect in Travel & Tourism.”

Josiam, B.M. (2013). “Leveraging Synergies in Global Collaborative Research - A Personal Journey.”

In addition to conferences attended, Dr. Kim was invited to present guest lectures at several universities in Korea including:
  • Soonchunhyang University:  presentation on Medical Tourism
  • Seokeong University:  presentation on Hospitality and Tourism Trends
  • Hanyang Cyber University: presentation on Hospitality and Tourism Trends
  • Kyungsung University:  presentation on Jobs and Careers in the Hospitality Industry

Both professors agreed that their international travel and research is not only an opportunity to represent UNT on a world stage, but to also enhance their teaching by incorporating experiences gained abroad in their classrooms.
