MDR Students Providing a Game Changer for Future Students
Mar 8, 2013

Merchandising, Inc., an active MDR student organization is enthusiastically working to achieve a bold goal set by its members to endow the Jamie Regan Scholarship for the New York Study Tour.  Their goal is to raise $25,000!  Jamie was an alumna of the program who participated in the New York Study Tour and frequently cited it as a turning point in her academic career.   The members of this organization are known for their hard work in setting and achieving goals and have enabled members to have unique experiences in this organization.

This organization includes members from the Merchandising, Home Furnishings Merchandising, and Digital Retailing degree programs.  Marissa Zorola, the advisor, really connects with the students and motivates them to achieve their goals.

Through long hours, dedication, and a few sore muscles, volunteer members have participated in a fund-raiser just 15 miles from the university.  Students have partnered with the AAA Texas 500 NASCAR race at the Texas Motor Speedway for two recent race events by putting their merchandising skills to work.   The students are able to apply much of their knowledge from the merchandising courses into two frenzied weekends of preparing and selling race-related merchandise.  Students spent the weekend prior to the race setting up four 60-foot stands with NASCAR, TMS, and AAA Texas 500 merchandise.  They also worked the merchandise stands on race weekend selling products to event attendees.

Zorola is not only the advisor, but a box unpacker, merchandise displayer, and team coach to the organization.  She stated, “Our days were long and hard but together with officers and members, the event was a success!  We appreciate each and every single student who offered their time and work.”

Students who have participated recently in the TMS fundraiser include:

Charis Orr, Andrea Lopez, Kali Rhodes, Kelly Norman, Tracy Harwood, Lillian Klang, Jessica Blanco, Rachael Kennedy, Asha Boyd, Darrin Williams, Jerrie Conly, Darlene Salazar,Iterica Dickerson, Brittany Cox, Jayne Monteros, Chloe Halley, Tori Tran, Alyssa Myers, Maryntia Alvarado, Maira Herrera, Ryan Kercheval, Jimmy Seifert, Jessica Lira, Carley Merton, Janaye Johnson, Kevin Morykwas, Nichele Helaire, Brionica Lawson, Ciara Valdery, Amairani Ordonez, Julie Hajda, Karen Caballero, Whitney McCumber, Subrina Hossain, Shala Bluitt, Julio Santos, Hahna Muehlberger, Sally Wu, Davondra Jones, Michele Crow.
