A record 60 students are initiated into Eta Sigma Delta!
Dec 13, 2012

Sixty juniors, seniors, and graduate hospitality management students were inducted into the University of North Texas’ (UNT) chapter of Eta Sigma Delta (ESD) on Tuesday, November 6, 2012 in the Gateway Center Ballroom on campus. ESD is an international honor society that recognizes exceptional academic achievement among hospitality and tourism students. At the undergraduate level, new UNT inductees achieved a minimum outstanding GPA level of 3.40 and a minimum of 3.75 GPA at the graduate level.

Eta Sigma Delta is founded on the “Five Points of Honor,” including Excellence, Leadership, Creativity, Service, and Ethics. These points challenge ESD members to continually commit to fostering the growth of knowledge and promoting the advancement of the hospitality/ tourism discipline and the industry. This year’s UNT ESD President, Stephanie Watkins, celebrated new member achievements by saying, “We are very proud of all the hard work and dedication our new inductees have shown for hospitality and tourism management. We are happy to have such an amazing group added to our ESD membership this year.”

As new members of ESD, students will benefit from the professional, organizational and educational outcomes of the organization. Professional benefits include recognition of excellence and exposure to networking connections. ESD students will also benefit from campus activities, fundraisers, and volunteer programs. Educational benefits include opportunities for members to encourage others to strive for excellence by providing tutoring in hospitality subjects.

Keynote Speaker, Senior Vice Provost Dr. Yolanda Flores Niemann, stated, “…This achievement is a marker of brighter successes to come; congratulations on your achievement.”

Eta Sigma Delta is administered by the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Education (I-CHRIE), the leading association devoted to hospitality and tourism education.
