Award-Winning UNT Faculty Presents in the Philippines
Oct 22, 2012

Dr. Bharath M. Josiam and Dr. Young Hoon Kim, Professors of The College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism, presented award winning papers at the Tenth Asia-Pacific Council on Hotel, Restaurant, & Institutional Education (APAC-CHRIE) Conference held in Manila, Philippines, June 2012.

Dr. Josiam’s “Best in Conference” paper entitled “Using Structural Equation Modeling to Understand the Impact of Hollywood Movies and Television on Destination Image, Tourist Activity & Purchasing Behavior” is a collaborative piece also written by Merchandising Chair, Dr. Tammy Kinsley, Associate Professor, Dr. Daniel Spears of Hospitality and Tourism, and Associate Professor of Merchandising, Dr. Sanjukta Pookulangara. It outlined the impact of Hollywood movies and TV on tourism.

In Dr. Kim’s presentation he discussed motivators and trends for the emerging field of food tourism. His paper entitled “To Find Equilibrium of Food Tourism: Using Factor Analysis and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)”. His research discussed the different motivators for food tourism and how those motivators compare to other factors. He commented, “Continued research in tourism is essential for the industry’s growth. Comparing different factors to gage the public’s trends helps us understand more about consumers and adapt tourism trends to do the same.”

Both professors agreed that their international travel and research is not only an opportunity to represent UNT on a world stage, but to also enhance their teaching by incorporating experiences gained abroad in their classrooms.
