Merchandising Student’s Passion and Vision Creates Cross-Disciplinary Synergy and Reaches Wider Audience

Adriana Solis believes that education is incredibly important and that it provides her an opportunity to understand the world around her and her place in it.  She views the college campus as a small city with a variety of services and people who offer a variety of abilities. Her vision of a model of the outside world within the campus microcosm led to the launch of a new student organization that is a multi-disciplinary creative endeavor and an opportunity for UNT students to experiment, learn from each other, and achieve something beyond the classroom and individual abilities.

Method Seven Magazine is the result of that synergistic effort and incorporates the best work from over 50 students from merchandising, journalism, communication design, photography, finance, mathematics, marketing and accounting. The members planned, created and networked throughout the surrounding community to produce a unique publication from the perspective of the college student. 

A second goal of the group was to have a reach beyond the campus. This connection came swiftly and unexpectedly in the summer soon after the launch of the magazine. Area regional malls - Vista Ridge and Collin Creek - were planning back-to-school events and discovered online the digital version of Method Seven Magazine. Adriana was contacted to submit a proposal of several ideas for the event. Adriana, Tracy Harwood, Patrice Jackson, and faculty advisor, Dr. Jessica Strubel met with the General Managers and Event Coordinators for both Vista Ridge and Collin Creek Malls. The proposal “Passport to Style” was developed and delivered by the organization at both mall locations in August.   Various stations were organized and mall guests received “passport stamps” at various stops including the Style Panel, Photo Shoot Area, and Makeover Booth. Fully stamped passport holders received a “swag-bag” including a printed copy of the Method Seven Magazine.  Music was provided by DJs from UNT Live. The student organization employed their personal passions as well as what they have learned in courses and delivered a well-received mall event as well as recognition of their efforts on the Method Seven Magazine

Adriana created this organization to promote interest in the fashion world across disciplines and to encourage fellow students to take personal responsibility for their future by turning their talents into a tangible product long before entering the work force.
