Is a GRE or GMAT score required and if so, what is the required score?

How does the application process for the MS/MBA dual degree work?

An applicant applies to UNT using the Apply Texas application.  They will submit payment to the graduate school for the application and will select one of the programs (i.e. MS in Merchandising).  Then they will edit their Apply Texas account and select the other degree option (i.e. COB MBA) but does not submit payment a second time (fills out two applications but only pays one time).

The applicant submits one official transcript to the Graduate School and has official GRE or GMAT scores sent (see COB MBA application requirements regarding GRE or GMAT submission) to the Graduate School.

The applicant submits required references, statement of purpose and resume to the CMHT Graduate Coordinator. The applicant also submits the required COB MBA application requirement to their advising office.

Each department reviews and determines acceptance into their individual program. When an applicant is accepted by both departments, then the degree plan in each department will have courses that are counted for both majors.  This reduces the total number of hours (72 for 2 MS degrees) down to a total of 54.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to contact the MBA advising office for specific application polices for the MBA.  The CMHT Graduate Coordinator can answer questions regarding the MS Merchandising degree.

Do I need to know Spanish?

Although fluency in Spanish is not necessary, it will greatly enhance the quality of your experience in Costa Rica, both personally and professionally. All courses will be conducted in English and all work is submitted in English. That being said, knowledge of basic phrases and familiarity with Spanish pronunciation will be beneficial in daily interactions on campus and in town, and will allow you to extract the most from conversations with professionals. Because of differences in learning styles and scheduling conflicts, it is highly recommended that you undertake language preparation courses individually. Perhaps most importantly, a willingness to try and communicate in Spanish will go a long way. Costa Ricans are famous for their hospitality and appreciate efforts to use Spanish, no matter how basic it is. At the beginning, it won't be uncommon to find yourself speaking to someone in broken-Spanish, while they respond in broken-English; this is part of travel, and something you will quickly overcome if you are open to the experience.
